Legendary football coach Vince Dooley is also an avid gardener and garden writer. GardenGeri helped recruit him as a speaker and he became on of the Flower Show’s most ardent supporters.

Flower show attendance exceeded 143,000, driven in part by the debut of Facebook and social media to support the traditional public relations effort. 

Presentations and outreach to Atlanta media by GardenGeri on behalf of the SEFS resulted in WSB anchors Jovita Moore and Justin Farmer serving as honorary presenters at the preview party. This helped drive the Flower Show to its highest level of media coverage in more than two decades of flower shows.

GardenGeri participated in writing the flower show schedule and collateral promoting the flower show competition; more that 3800 entries resulted in judges awarding 275 prizes in 62 categories. In addition,  more than 50 commercial exhibitors participated in the SEFS.

In addition to providing publicity and social media support for the flower show, GardenGeri was a headline speaker. Her presentation “Growing and Using Herbs in the Southeast” drew capacity crowds for two events within the show’s 10 day run.

Assignment: Developed strategic pr plan for entire publicity campaign including timeline and deliverables, and created content for all news releases, print and online collateral materials. Responsible for all media relations outreach, including television and radio interviews and photo shoots. Created social media accounts and content. Coordinated VIP and Media appearances and worked closely with 2011 Show Chairwoman Mary Norwood and SFS Executive Committee.

Results:  Attendance increased 15% over previous year. ABC/WSB-Atlanta Anchor Jovita Moore and Justin Farmer attended the Preview Party and presented Awards onstage. SFS principals gave 10 radio and television interviews. Create first-ever real-time Facebook and Twitter pages for the Southeastern Flower Show.
